Our lecture will focus on the critical campaign in the summer of 1862 around the Confederate Capital of Richmond. In his first major campaign, Gen. Robert E Lee would push back the Federal army under Gen. George McClellan from the gates of Richmond. The cost was thousands of lives on both sides. The result would save Richmond from invasion and set up the campaign as troops marched toward the Second Battle of Manassas.
