The African American Perspective
"Without a struggle there can be no progress"
The African American perspective is a unique one that includes stories of fighting for freedom as soldiers, supporting the army as a cook, leading slaves to freedom through the Underground Railroad and more.
Approximately 180,000 African Americans served in the Union Army during the Civil War, with many more playing a supporting role to the troops. Others, including Harriet Tubman played integral roles in assisting slaves escape to freedom. While others still, such as Frederick Douglass, fought and spoke for equal rights.
